Inside the book

15 Things You’ll Discover in Surviving Mesothelioma

  1. Why Paul wrote far more about how to live with mesothelioma than how to outlast it, and what that actually looked like day to day.
  2. How to use your “Silent Healer” without causing any pain.
  3. That first terrifying night after the word “mesothelioma,” and what Paul did so the panic didn’t start making his decisions for him.
  4. Why you don’t have to decide anything the day you’re diagnosed. Giving yourself room to breathe changes everything that comes after.
  5. The #1 biggest mistake most patients make when trying to cure their cancer vs. heal their cancer… and how to avoid making it.
  6. How to stop being a passenger in your own treatment and become the kind of patient a busy doctor actually slows down for.
  7. The handful of questions Paul learned to ask before agreeing to any treatment. The ones that turn a rushed appointment into a real conversation.
  8. What to do in the first few days to get organized, including how to get a second set of eyes on your diagnosis before anything important slips past.
  9. Why an experienced mesothelioma doctor matters, and how to find one.
  10. The hidden truth about anti-cancer diets.
  11. The small, everyday things Paul did at home that helped him feel steadier: how he ate, moved, rested, even laughed.
  12. The waiting. The not-knowing. The hard days. How other patients got through them without going through it alone.
  13. What “accept the diagnosis, but reject the prognosis” really meant for Paul, and how he lived it out one day at a time.
  14. How to hold onto hope and a sense of purpose on the days that feel impossible, without pretending everything’s fine.
  15. The combination of conventional and complementary approaches Paul chose to help him live for 27 years.

Anthony This is my ninth year... no chemo... no radiation... and I'm still kicking because of this book. And I was given months to live when I finally found out what was wrong. Thanks Paul. You gave me hope.

Ron Initially when I was diagnosed I had very little hope, because they told me it would be less than a year. Reading the book showed me there was a chance. It's now been five years, and that book was at the centerpiece of giving me the hope I needed to carry on and fight this disease.

Louis I've been in complete remission for a while now. The book gave me resources on how to find new ways to live — ways to eat healthier and be healthier to myself. My quality of life has been greatly improved since that diagnosis back in 2003. I'm very glad for the book.

Patricia The book about Paul Kraus was extremely good. So far, I've been three years now after my diagnosis. I did have surgery, but I'm doing well, and I thank God every single day for that. Please read the book. It's very good.

Eric I have this condition, beaten it 4 times so far in 2 years. I have a good medical team that I trust. I have always had a positive attitude, live life as usual, eat and go where I like. People fear death but I look at it as a new adventure when it comes. All the best to all.

Darcy My father was diagnosed about a year and a half ago, and we read it right away. It was really helpful because it was hopeful, and it had some very specific recommendations around diet and lifestyle.

Mick For the first 12 months after my diagnosis I listened to music for hours, laughed every day, and kept a very positive attitude. I tell myself I can't die yet — too much still to do. I'm now 3½ years since diagnosis. I'm fighting a big fight but I believe.

Thomas The book gives a bit of a roadmap — how to deal with situations day by day, and the fact that every day is a new day. Make the best of every day, have a positive attitude, and never look back. You can't change what's happened, but you can sure change what happens in the future.

J.E. The book gave me suggestions for lifestyle, health, and exercise. I planned on proving the oncologist totally wrong. No magic pills to buy — just good practical advice, which gives you hope.
