If you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone

You shouldn't have to face that alone — and you shouldn't have to start from zero.

What you'll get

Pleural Mesothelioma Treatments
  • What pleural mesothelioma actually is, in plain language — and the one detail on your pathology report that shapes almost every decision ahead.

  • The two-drug combo recently approved as the first treatment many patients try — and the study where just over 4 out of 10 were still alive two years later.

  • The decades-old drug pairing still at the heart of treatment — and the single addition that nearly doubled how many patients saw their tumors shrink.

  • Why surgery is the most debated question in mesothelioma — and what a 335-patient study found when it tested surgery against skipping it. The result surprised a lot of experts.

  • How your cell type decides which treatments are even on the table — and why a specialist's second look at your pathology can change your whole plan.

  • Two treatments beyond drugs and surgery — including one you wear on your chest.

  • What the research shows about survival by subtype and stage — and the single factor tied to some patients living nearly twice as long.

  • How where you're treated can change your odds — and the five-month survival gap one study found between two kinds of hospital.

  • Which treatments are FDA-approved, and which mean joining a clinical trial — so you're never left guessing about what's available to you.

  • How to treat the symptoms, not just the disease — including the drug-free approach that eases breathlessness with far fewer side effects.

  • The terms your treatment team throws around — explained in plain English, so nothing slips past you.

  • The questions worth asking your oncologist about each option — and how to tell realistic hope from an overblown promise.

  • The confidence of knowing you're not facing pleural mesothelioma — or its treatment decisions — blind.

A pleural mesothelioma treatment guide from someone who's lived it

Pleural Mesothelioma Treatments was written by one of the longest-living mesothelioma survivors in the world — a man diagnosed with mesothelioma himself. Over more than two decades, Paul researched the disease from the inside: what to look for, what to ask, and what helped him face it.

This guide won't tell you which treatment to choose — no honest guide could. What it gives you is a clear, calm way to understand the disease, so you can face the road ahead prepared instead of in the dark.

Paul Kraus

The life and diagnosis of 27-year mesothelioma survivor, Paul Kraus.

1997 · The diagnosis

A prognosis of weeks

Paul was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure decades earlier. By the time it was found, doctors believed it was terminal and gave him only months — perhaps weeks.

The years that followed

He refused to simply accept it

Paul read everything he could find, sought second opinions, and walked into appointments with lists of questions. That habit — researching carefully and asking the hard questions — became the foundation of the guide that now carries his name.

2002 · "Against the odds"

Living proof

Five years after he was told he had weeks, Paul was still here — featured on the cover of the Newcastle Herald's Weekender as a man who had outlived every expectation, supported throughout by his wife Sue.

The guidance lives on

Paul passed away in July 2024 at 79 — twenty-seven years after he was given only months. He spent those years learning everything he could about facing cancer wisely, and writing it down for others.
